Description:

Advances in healthcare technology as well as recommendations from the AACN and IOM require healthcare professionals to be competent in information technology. This course introduces students to applications of technology. Please note that for students not admitted into the nursing program, this course will count as an elective.

Course Learning GoalsUpon completion of this course, the student will:Evaluate information technologies as a strategy to promote patient safety.• Discuss the impact of patient information technology on ensuring quality patient care.Identify data resources relevant to patient care.• Demonstrate skills of decision making utilizing Integrate best evidence and best practices in planning care.informatics.• Evaluate patient care technologies to address the needs of a diverse patient population. Demonstrate computer and information literacy skills.Evaluate information technologies as a strategy to promote patient safety.• Discuss the impact of patient information technology on ensuring quality patient care.Discuss privacy and security issues associated with healthcare information.• Discuss the role of informatics in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
