In-person dates 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10 This course focuses on the synthesis of strategy and operations in order to improve processes that provide competitive advantage. Methodologies that are examined include Strategy, Total Quality Management, Decision Making, Statistical Process Control, Forecasting, Production Analysis and Facility Design. Upon completion of this course, it is expected that you should be able to:• Assess how strategy and operations are utilized by an organization to develop a competitive advantage.• Articulate the role of operations and operations management in supporting the organization’s mission, goals, and strategic policies.• Illustrate the various operations management topics and how they interact with human resources in such a way that “Best Practices” are developed.• Illustrate the utilization of operations to develop competitive advantages in the functional areas of finance, human resources, marketing and production.• Contrast the application of operations in the manufacturing sector versus the service sector.• Discuss one topic in TQM or Six Sigma in depth based on research conducted as part of the required project. You must demonstrate proficiency in developing a thorough review of the literature, appropriate references and a well-developed and current bibliography. Your paper must demonstrate knowledge far and above the text’s discussion of the topic. You should also be prepared to present your findings to the class.
