Students will gain knowledge about the basic social, cognitive and behavioral characteristics of children and adolescents within a developmental framework so that they may thoughtfully examine the relationship between the growing child and various forms of mass media.

Students will gain an understanding of child development which will serve as a springboard for them to critically evaluate the role that mass media plays in children’s lives. Students will appreciate the psychological and behavioral characteristics of children and adolescents and be familiar with basic research pertaining to youth’s exposure to and processing of the media messages which surround them.
