Learning Goals

Artistic expression is a central goal of this course. Students will be equipped with the rudiments of self-expression in the formats of video and media and then encouraged to “create.” Though technical information will be taught, technical expertise is not as important as gaining a handle on using these technical options for self-expression. By the end of the semester, students should feel comfortable making images that express their thoughts and feelings about the world. For production and journalism concentration students, this will provide a basis upon which to build. For media studies students, this will provide a deeper sense of how images are made. For all students this will also be a class in work habits: how to handle the various demands of projects and deliver the end product on time.
