Juana M. Ramos, the renowned Salvadoran writer, poet, and professor at York College (CUNY), will be joining us to present her work and share her experiences as a Hispanic female writer in New York City.

We are honored to welcome Juana M. Ramos, the renowned Salvadoran writer, poet, and professor at York College (CUNY), for a special presentation of her literary work and personal journey as a Hispanic female writer in New York City.

The event will feature readings from her poetry and prose, personal reflections, and an insightful discussion on themes such as identity, migration, literature, feminism, and the role of women in shaping contemporary Hispanic narratives. Juana M. Ramos’s work captures the complexities of the immigrant experience and highlights the intersections between culture, memory, and belonging.

This event aims to create an engaging and meaningful space where students, faculty, and the broader community can connect with Juana’s experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by Latina writers in the U.S. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, participate in an open discussion, and explore how literature can serve as a powerful tool for cultural expression and social change.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Juana M. Ramos

Juana M. Ramos is a Spanish and literature professor at York College, CUNY, originally from Santa Ana, El Salvador. She has participated in various international literary events across Latin America, the U.S., and Europe.

Ramos has published several poetry collections and a short story book, alongside co-authoring significant works on the Salvadoran civil war. In 2021, she received the Feliks Gross Award for her contributions to the humanities and was named Poet of the Year 2023 in El Salvador. She initiated EntreTmas, a digital platform promoting Latin American writers and is the director of EntreTmas Revista Digital, a digital magazine focusing on Spanish-language literature and culture. 

This event is part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
