This presentation will focus on the creation of the United Nations and key figures from drafting the UN Charter.

Join the Levermore Global Scholars program on Thursday, March 27th from 3:00PM – 4:30PM in UC Room 213/214 for a conversation about the history and founding of the UN with our Spring Fellow, Mr. Mario Baez. Mr. Baez recently retired from a 3 decade career with the United Nations, where he recently served as the UN Chief Accountability Officer. A native of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Baez holds advanced degrees in Economics and Elections and Campaign Management.
This presentation will focus on the creation of the United Nations and key figures from drafting the UN Charter. It will also review the initial vision for the UN and how the desire for lasting peace and international cooperation drove its governance structure. Finally, Mr. Baez will open up the floor for a discussion of the UN’s historical trajectory, its ongoing role in global affairs, and some of the UN’s contributions during its 80 years of existence.
