Adelphi University carries Workers’ Compensation Insurance for all full-time and part-time employees.

What is Workers’ Compensation?

Insurance that provides medical care for a work-related injury or illness. It can also provide lost-wage benefits if you miss time from work due to a work-related incident.

If you have a work-related injury or illness, seek medical treatment immediately, if needed. Inform your health care provider that you have a work-related injury and give them the name of your employer.

How to Submit a Claim

As soon as practicable, but no later than 30-days after the accident, you must:

  1. Notify your supervisor as soon as possible once the work-related injury/illness occurs
  2. File an incident report with either Health Services or Public Safety.

The Claims Process

Human Resources will file a workers’ compensation claim with the insurance carrier (CHUBB) after receiving one of the following:

  • Aided Response Report from Health Services
  • Incident Report from Public Safety

Please note that the Office of Human Resources cannot file a workers’ compensation claim until one of these completed reports has been received.

Information Provided to the Injured Employee

After the claim has been filed, Human Resources will provide the employee with:

Information Provided to the Supervisor

Human Resources will provide the supervisor with:

  • Workers’ Compensation Supervisor Report (Incident and Investigation Report Form)

Returning to Work

Before returning to work, employees must provide the Office of Human Resources with medical documentation from their treating physician confirming they are medically cleared to return to work without restrictions.

The documentation must:

  1. Include the authorized return-to-work date.
  2. Clearly state that the employee is medically cleared to return to work without restrictions.

Nothing in this summary of benefits may be construed as a contract with any employee, which can occur only by a specific written agreement between Adelphi University and the employee. The University reserves the right to change, modify or eliminate any benefit in this summary at any time, with or without notice, according to the terms of the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Each November, Annual Enrollment period is offered during which employees may elect to change plans, with the change effective on the subsequent January 1.
