Course Materials:
Description:

Through reading, creative writing and conversation, participants will explore what it means to be human. Students will select their reading assignments from a range of engaging contemporary memoirs. Panel discussions, digital journalism, and a social action project will provide lively opportunities for leadership, team work and individual expression.

Learning Goals:

*Demonstrate growth in the following seminar goals: communicating questions, insights, and self-awareness through: class discussion and blogging; engaging in respectful debate; active listening; challenging fixed notions; developing and exercising leadership; taking charge of their own learning.*Summarize in writing and through a creative panel presentation the significant details and themes of a contemporary memoir.*Discover and reflect on the significant themes in their own biographies.*Create a personal, focused memoir using a combination of words, visuals, and/or digital storytelling.*Complete a final group project that involves a combination of some of the following skills: oral debate, public advocacy, research, online journalism.
