Students will learn foundational concepts and skills necessary for providing patient centered nursing care; demonstrate skills in the laboratory setting with a focus on providing safe, high quality care and recognizing and preventing patient complications. Clinical and simulation lab experience will emphasize beginning critical reasoning, clinical judgement, and communication skills. 1. Implement patient-centered care thatreflects an understanding oftechniques for ensuring patientsafety.2. Implement interventions for patientsexperiencing acute and chronic pain,altered mobility, nutritional deficits,skin alterations, oral, fluid and electrolyte alterations, elimination,and oxygenation needs.3. Safely administer medications usingproper technique and assessing forside effects.4. Formulate nursing diagnoses forpatients with selected biopsychosocialalterations.5. Formulate and implement a plan ofcare.6.Incorporate individuals’ personaland cultural reactions to illness intoholistic nursing care.7. Deliver care that reflects patientand family preferences.8. Integrate best evidence and bestpractices in providing nursing care.9. Integrate beginning knowledge ofinformatics in the clinical setting.10. Respect and protect privacy ofpatient information.11. Demonstrate behavior consistentwith the ANA code of ethics fornurses and ANA scope andstandards of practice.12. Discuss ethical and legalconsiderations relevant to theholistic care of patients.13. Recognize role participation ofnurses in patient safety and qualityinitiatives.14. Use professional communicationand collaboration skills to deliverevidence-based, patient-centeredcare.15.
