SPARK Speaks: Digital Storytelling for Researchers
Event Actions
Learn how to share your research online by building websites, timelines, maps, and more using free and open access digital tools.
Newspapers, nonprofits, and media companies around the world use the digital storytelling tools created by Northwestern University’s Knight Lab to turn their text and images into interactive visual narratives. In this workshop you will learn how you can use these same free and open source tools to share the results of your research with peers, professors, and the public.
You will see how you can use SceneVR to turn panoramic photos into a series of navigable scenes creating a unique 360° narrative. StoryMapJS lets you combine photos and maps to tell stories that highlight the locations of a series of events and StorylineJS lets you build an annotated, interactive line chart. Knight Lab’s most popular tool, TimelineJS, allows you to make interactive online timelines and just got a major update. Learn how you can combine these tools with Google Sites to create a website where people can find and view your digital stories online.
This event is part of the SPARK Center seminar series and the Swirbul Library Information Literacy. Organized in collaboration with the Swirbul Library.
