Clothesline Project
Event Actions
The Clothesline Project began with the work of feminist Mexican artist, Monica Mayer, in the 1970s in Mexico City, as part of her art installation, El Tendedero/The Clothesline. Subsequent work on Cape Cod in 1990, led by a group of women who sought to develop a program to educate, break the silence, and bear witness to one issue – violence against women- followed suit. Adelphi University’s Criminal Justice Club has worked to implement its own Clothesline Project over the past 17 years, frequently working with other campus organizations and the Center for Student Community Engagement to raise awareness about gender- and other forms of interpersonal violence and to let survivors know they are not alone.
