Ambassador Rein Tammsaar is the Permanent Representative of Estonia to the United Nations since 2022. He will explore how the UN is trying to adapt in a new era of geopolitical competition and how Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine is transforming the European security landscape.
Ambassador Rein Tammsaar explores how the UN is trying to adapt in a new era of geopolitical competition and how Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine is transforming the European security landscape. He will also discuss the Nordic-Baltic region’s role in upholding the principles of international law and the UN Charter while strengthening European deterrence and supporting Ukraine.
This event is part of the Adelphi University Ambassadorial Lecture Series. The event is free, but registration is required.

Ambassador Rein Tammsaar

Ambassador Rein Tammsaar is the Permanent Representative of Estonia to the United Nations since 2022. Ambassador Tammsaar joined the Estonian foreign service in 1994, and has served in senior positions including Under-Secretary for Political Affairs at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Representative to the European Union, Ambassador to the EU’s Political and Security Committee, Director General for Policy Planning, and Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister. His earlier experience includes serving as Senior Counsellor at the EU Delegation to the Russian Federation, Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Estonian MFA, Counsellor at the Policy Unit of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Javier Solana, and various postings within the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including at the Embassy in Moscow.
