Off-campus employment is available to F-1 students who are experiencing economic hardships and who also obtain the following work authorization.

Please note that working off-campus without USCIS authorization is considered a violation of status. We encourage you to contact International Services if you have questions or believe you qualify for these benefits.

Severe Economic Hardship Employment

If other employment opportunities are not available or are otherwise insufficient, an eligible F-1 student may request off-campus employment work authorization based upon severe economic hardship caused by unforeseen circumstances beyond the student’s control.

Special Student Relief

In specific situations, an international student may be eligible for Special Student Relief (SSR), which is the suspension of certain regulatory requirements related to full course of study and on-campus or off-campus on-campus.
