Former Adelphi University Basketball Coach Steve Clifford named Charolotte Bobcats new head coach.

Newsday’s blog featured a write-up about Adelphi University Professor Paul Moravec’s “Change at Jamaica” playing in Penn Station. When commuters pass by the video monitor located near the elevators at the station’s 34th Street entrance, they can watch a recording of the world premiere of Moravec’s latest work performed by student musicians from Garden City High School. Moravec, a 16-year professor at Adelphi University in Garden City, penned the 10-minute instrumental piece for a consortium of eight high schools.

Adelphi University baseball senior closer Dillon McNamara was named to the 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America second team Friday, as reported by the Staten Island Advance.


Former Adelphi University Basketball Coach Steve Clifford named Charolotte Bobcats new head coach as reported by Rufus On Fire. The Charlotte Bobcats are a professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association.


Cleveland Jewish News reported that Adelphi University Professor, Dr. Stephen Shore will be one of the national keynote speakers at the upcoming 11th annual Autism Spectrum Disorder Conference at the I-X Center in Cleveland, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, and Thursday, June 20.


Anagnostis Agelarakis, professor and chair of Anthropology at Adelphi University was featured in The Island Now for his research on an ancient Greek warrior’s 2,500-year-old ulnar bone with a bronze arrowhead still lodged in it. The bone was x-rayed at Long Island Jewish Hospital.

In the Newsday article, Money Fix: college grads’ financial start, Thomas Ward Jr., executive director of the Center for Career Development at Adelphi University in Garden City was quoted as saying, “Write five bullet points that you don’t want to leave the room without saying.”


Public News Service quoted Director Marcy Safyer, Adelphi University, Institute for Parenting, in an article on the Tobacco Tax and Pre-K, she wondered if funding pre-K would be done on the backs of the poor, since studies have shown that low-income people make up a major proportion of cigarette smokers.

“If it really worked as a deterrent, so that poor people would not buy cigarettes anymore because they cost too much, maybe then it would make more sense,” Safyer said.


StoryCorps’ Animation Department will be screening some animated shorts–including Adelphi University’s Department of Theater Chair, Nicholas Petron’s –at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Animation Block Party on July 26 at 7:00 p.m.
