Adelphi University's student newspaper, The Delphian, wins best student newspaper; athletics wins NE President's Cup!

Dr. Blanche Wiesen Cook delivered “Eleanor Roosevelt and the Promise of Human Rights” at Adelphi University on March 18, 2013. Adelphi University Athletics won the 2013 Northeast-10 President’s Cup! This is an award that goes to the best all around Athletic Department in the Northeast-10 and this is the first time since joining the NE-10 that we’ve won it. We broke Stonehill University’s streak of 3 straight wins. Check out this post on our aupanters.com site.


In the June 5, New York Post article titled, Credit Yourself, Make the Most of Summer with Career-Boosting Courses, Adelphi University was featured for their creative craft classes, professional development courses and certifications in the healthcare fields. We were also mentioned for offering a range of registered nursing specialties programs.


Press Club of Long Island honored seven Adelphi University students with awards and scholarships this week. The Delphian was named Best College Newspaper over competitors from Stony Brook University and Suffolk Community College. Also, a WALK Radio report on disaster preparedness and the Center for Health Innovation Poll won first place. Adelphi Senior Adjunct Professor (and The Delphian advisor) Liza Burby won second place in the feature/lifestyle category for her article in Long Island Parent magazine.


Newsday highlighted James Weippert, a senior theater major at Adelphi University, who is organizing an improv comedy night in memory of his sister. Weippert is partnering, for the third year in a row, with his former Hicksville High School drama teacher and friends to stage a show to raise funds for the Sarah Grace Foundation for Children with Cancer, Inc. that will take place on June 14 and 15.


Patricia Sheridan’s Breakfast With … Sean Hannity printed in the Monday, June 3, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, quoted the Fox News Channel host as saying, “I went to Adelphi University as soon as I graduated from high school.”


Commack Patch reported on Teachers Federal Credit Union hosting a local farmers on Motor Parkway each Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. this summer.  One of the speakers introducing the market was Adelphi University professor, Dr. Sarah Eichberg, Director of the Institute for Social Research and Community Engagement (iSORCE),  who said, “Food insecurity is growing, especially as incomes are stagnating or declining.”
