Overview
The circles are designed for participants to share lived experiences by sharing narratives, to broaden the understanding of diverse experiences among people. Launched by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation &trade (TRHT) effort seeks to help communities embrace racial healing and eliminate conscious and unconscious beliefs in a hierarchy of human value. The TRHT effort promotes inclusive and community-based healing activities and policy designs that seek to change community narratives and broaden the understanding of diverse experiences among people.
About the Facilitator
Najla McClain
Najla McClain is the Program Coordinator for the Duke Health Center for Interprofessional Education and Care (IPEC). In this role, Najla works with the IPEC team to develop and disseminate educational programs on interprofessional collaborative practice into classrooms and clinics across the health system. Beyond these endeavors, she is actively involved in various community initiatives aimed at promoting cross-cultural understanding, social justice, and equitable opportunities for all. In addition to leadership roles with the Partnership for Healthy Durham, Healthy Duke and several community advisory councils Najla McClain is a Racial Healing Practitioner with the Duke Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation.
She holds a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives and recognizes the importance of creating inclusive environments where everyone’s voice is not only heard but valued. Whether facilitating community town halls, contributing to healing circles or storytelling Najla works to cultivate brave spaces that encourage honest conversations about racial bias and the impact of historical legacies. With an approach rooted in empathy, active listening, and fostering a sense of belonging, individuals and groups feel supported to engage in conversations authentically and thoughtfully. Empowering people and organizations to challenge prejudices, dismantle barriers, and co-create more equitable and inclusive communities.
