Oversee the operational and academic affairs of the department and related matters and activities.  Attend meetings of the chairs and all school-wide faculty meetings.  Hold regular meetings of the departmental faculty and oversee departmental curriculum development, course scheduling, teaching assignments, hiring and review of adjuncts, support departmental assessment activities, work to support both the of Momentum 2 strategic plan and the WSB strategic plan, and related academic and department co-curricular matters.  Planning for and the hiring of new full-time faculty and addressing issues that may arise with students and faculty.  Represent the department at appropriate School and University functions including those related to recruitment, admissions and orientation.  Work with the School’s Unit Peer Review Committee to coordinate the formation of faculty search committees, make hiring recommendations to the dean and participate in the review, tenure and promotion process as required.  Play an important role with respect to accreditation activities, making sure that all departmental faculty members are familiar with and in compliance with AACSB standards. Perform the academic duties of a faculty member in accounting...teaching, research and service.

Instructional modalities used: On-site, and 100% online. Engage in scholarship leading to conference presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Was the lead creator of the Master of Science program in Professional Accounting that contains a curriculum of 30 credit hours. The program was launched in January 2019. Developed three new graduate courses in accounting that are offered in two new graduate degree programs in the Willumstad School of Business (WSB) at Adelphi U. Initiated and successfully led the redesign of the undergraduate accounting curriculum that reduced the length of the BBA in Accounting program by 2 credits and made it easier for incoming students to minor in a non-business field. Have been serving as the Chair of the AACSB Continuous Improvement Review Committee in the WSB since Fall 2013. My role is to coordinate the activities related to the maintenance of the AACSB accreditation of WSB. In this role, I participated very actively with the dean in securing a successful continuous improvement review from AACSB in 2017-18. From July 1, 2018 until June 30, 2020, I also served as the Chair of the Learning Assessment Committee in WSB. Serve on other school-wide and university-wide committees. Advise 20-25 undergraduate accounting students each semester for matters related to their academic progress.

Coordinated the activities related to the maintenance of the AACSB accreditation of the degree programs in WSB. Participated very actively with the dean in securing a successful maintenance of accreditation review (2013-14). Assisted the dean in creating the Office of Internship and Mentorship (OIM) for WSB in Spring 2014. Since then the OIM has enabled more than 200 WSB students annually in getting internships, 95% of which are paid internships. Worked with the department chairs in fine-tuning the course schedule for each semester. Taught a full teaching load of 9 credits in each semester: Undergraduate Intermediate Accounting I and II (onsite), Graduate Managerial Accounting (100% online). Engaged in scholarship leading to conference presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Served on school-wide and university-wide committees, and actively chaired or participated in faculty searches. Advised 25+ students each semester for matters related to their academic progress.

Served as the Chief Operating Officer of WSB, reporting to the dean. Coordinated the activities related to the maintenance of the AACSB accreditation of the degree programs in WSB, including working with the learning assessment committee, maintaining necessary documentation, and preparing annual maintenance review reports to monitor yearly compliance with the faculty sufficiency and qualification ratios, among other things. Provided oversight to the curriculum development and review activities; steered new course and program proposals on timely basis through the internal and external review processes including registration of new academic programs with NY State, as applicable; and assisted with the implementation of the academic standards set by the faculty. Worked with the University College for Adult Learners in creating and launching a Basic Certificate in Accounting and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting. The latter was aimed at assisting non-accounting business graduates who want to pursue the CPA designation. Prepared and co-presented with the dean the annual budget of WSB to the senior administration of the University. Also, actively monitored the allocation of budgetary funds to various operating activities of WSB. Worked towards establishing WSB as a Continuing Professional Education Sponsor for the NY State Board of Public Accountancy. Created Adelphi’s Pre-College Summer Business Academy wherein qualified high school sophomores and juniors took an introductory business course for college credit. The participants went through a rigorous two-week academic program that combined traditional lectures with field trips and concluded with a simulation project. Worked with Gleim Exam Prep to arrange a cost-free availability of their CPA Exam Review software for use in our upper level accounting courses. The Accounting faculty use the software every semester as a supplementary tool to familiarize the students with the material on the CPA exam. Established a firm schedule of learning assessment activities for both undergraduate and graduate programs in WSB that required all learning assessment activities to be held on designated Assessment Days in each regular semester and the summer term. Participated with the dean in the hiring and evaluation of full-time faculty. Worked with the Office of Information Technology and the Budgeting Director of the University in identifying and procuring technology-related resources for the faculty. Worked with the directors of undergraduate and graduate programs to provide oversight to enrollment management and student-related matters that included periodic orientation of incoming new undergraduate and graduate business students, and student advising. Played a lead role in completely redesigning the website of WSB. Updated the WSB Bulletin and all other publications on annual basis. Launched an electronic newsletter of WSB that was released more than once per year to replace the printed newsletter that was released annually. Worked with the department chairs in fine-tuning the course schedule for each semester. Established a new, in-house tutoring program for accounting students where designated graduate student assistants with prior accounting background meet face-to-face with undergraduate accounting students at designated hours and in a designated location to offer them extra help to learn the course material outside of the classroom. The tutoring program is now in its tenth year. Initiated and conducted periodic orientation activity for the part-time faculty. Represented the dean in his absence at on-campus and off-campus activities of importance to WSB.
