Personal StatementI am delighted to join the visual art department faculty at Adelphi University bringing me back to my native New York to continue doing what I love, making sculpture and helping young artists do the same.
Teaching Specializations/InterestsSpecializations include: sculpture, public sculpture, drawing and mixed media visual art studio production.
Research InterestsChristopher Saucedo was born (1964) in Brooklyn, New York where he grew up. He received his BFA from New York's School of Visual Arts in 1986 and his MFA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1988. After attending the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture he did post-graduate work at the Queens University of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Saucedo joins the faculty at Adelphi after 19 years at the University of New Orleans where he was Research Professor of Fine Arts and chairperson of the department.
Over the past 25 years Saucedo has exhibited his artwork in over 100 exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad with current exhibitions of his sculpture at the Contemporary Arts Center, Swagger of a Lost Magnificence, and the Good Children Gallery, Hit Refresh, both in New Orleans. This past July and in response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico he presented a monumental sculpture made of oyster shells, glass and bronze in the exhibition Catalyst at the Contemporary Arts Center in Mobile, Alabama. This past fall he mounted a solo exhibition of his artwork, also at the Good Children Gallery, where he presented ethereal and fragile imagery of the former World Trade Center in an exhibition titled, September 11, 2011 (Please stop saying 9/11). In the past few years Saucedo has also completed three major public sculptures in New Orleans, most notably an 8,000-pound freestanding and monumental granite block of water, memorializing the catastrophic 2005 flood that followed Hurricane Katrina. The sculpture is titled, Flood Marker.
