Personal Statement

 

I am a writer, researcher and educator. My research explores innovative data methodologies in the social sciences, drawing on anthropology, philosophy and cultural studies. My projects include studies of the cultural-material practices associated with mathematical activity of all kinds, be it expert, novice, or non-human. My work has been funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario and Toronto Arts Councils, the US National Science Foundation, and the UK Economic and Social Research Council. I work across disciplines. I have published five books and over 50 articles and chapters on a range of topics including: Abductive cognition, Critical cartographic methods, Sensor technology, Speculative materialisms, Number sense, Digital life, Mapping software, Learning theories, Philosophy of mathematics.
