Personal Statement

I am a firm believer that the overall goal of physical education is to help students, young and old, develop physical activity behaviors for a lifetime. Hence, as an educator I find great value in creating interactive learning environments to foster this process. To me, teaching is more than lecturing to students, it is an interactive, guided conversation, where the teacher is able to present relevant concepts, theories, and research materials to students in a way that students can use and integrate that information into their daily living and professional endeavors. I strive to accomplish this notion not only in my presentations, advisement, practicum experiences, and lectures, but also in the questions and experiences that guide classroom discussion and involvement.

On a personal note, I feel that it is important to equip students early on with reflective and informative academic advisement, education, and practical knowledge. All of which will enable them to shape their career goals and endeavors, encouraging them to become active participants in their educational journey. Moreover, it is important to emphasize critical thinking and real-world applications of the concepts and issues that we study. It is my hope to engage students, who sometimes fail to see the humanity of social situations that impact individuals view of physical education, and physical activity overall.
