Personal Statement

David Hornung is a painter and educator who lives and works in Manhattan and Shokan New York. He has been teaching painting, drawing, and design at American art schools and universities since 1976. David came to Adelphi in the fall of 2004 to chair the Department of Art and Art History.

Since the early 1990's, David has specialized in teaching color theory and practice to painters, graphic designers, textile designers, and illustrators. In 2004, his book, Color: A Workshop for Artists and Designers, was published by Laurence King Publishing Ltd. in Britain and distributed in the United States by McGraw-Hill. (It has also been translated into French and Japanese.) The book is based on his years of teaching color at the Rhode Island School of Design.
