Teaching Specializations/Interests

My classes emphasize current empirical research and theory in the field of developmental psychology, with a focus on child and adolescent social and emotional development as well as contextual factors affecting development. Teaching methods include semester-long child case studies; developmental observations at the Alice Brown Early Learning Center; interviews with parents; and research investigations on current issues and developmental challenges that youth today face.

I am the Faculty Chair for Adelphi University's interdisciplinary Institute for Parenting (http://www.adelphi.edu/parentinginstitute/). I encourage interested students to engage in internships and mentored research experiences at the Institute in order to enhance developmental material learned in courses.
