Grants / Sponsored Research

Currently under commission from the Cherry Lane Theatre to write new musical "Kissing the Underworld" with lyricist Charlie Sohne. The musical is scheduled for inclusion in Cherry Lane's 2010-11 season.

Partial Comfort Productions summer residency, June 2009. The residency supported development of my new play "A Cold Choleric."

Centre des Auteurs Dramatiques (CEAD) translation residency and travel grant, fall 2008. The residency, in Montreal, Quebec, supported the translation into French of my play "Substitution" and, subsequently, presented and made the script available to Francophone theatres and institutions.

Williamstown Theater Festival's Bill Foeller Fellowship, summer 2008. The residency supported the creation, development, and production of a new play "Cold Hard Cash", directed by May Adrales.

"The Believers" was commissioned by the Stella Adler Conservatory for performance in its summer theatre program, summer 2008.

New York Stage & Film/Lark Play Development Center summer residency, July 2007. The residency on the campus of Vassar College and subsequent readings in Manhattan supported development of my new musical "Tina Girlstar."

"Circumvention" was commissioned by Keen Company and Playscripts, Inc. as part of their inaugural Keen Teens program. The play was produced at Theatre Row and subsequently published by Playscripts, Inc.

Adelphi University Faculty Development Grant. The production grant will support a week long workshop and presentation of my new musical "Tina Girlstar", co-written with lyricist Charlie Sohne and composer Brian Feinstein.

Lark Play Development Center Playwright-in-Residence (2006-2007). The year long fellowship supported the creation and development of three new plays, "Substitution", "The Empty Ocean", and "Moving On".

The Playwrights Center of San Francisco and Stanford University residency. The week long residency and travel grant supported the development of my new play "BOB".

Lark Play Development Center Playwrights Workshop Fellow (2005-2006), alongside David Henry Hwang, Emily Mann, and Rajiv Joseph. The year long fellowship supported the creation and development of "BOB".

Baryshnikov Dance Foundation/Tisch School of the Arts development grant. The production grant accompanied a month long residency at Baryshnikov Arts Center to develop a bilingual performance piece set in Peru, "Flight of Kings", the project was dramaturged by Edwin Sanchez.

First Look Theatre Company development grant. The three week residency and production grant supported the development and presentation of "Getting Home", the project was dramaturged by Craig Lucas.

Manhattan Theatre Club Playwriting Fellowship and Commission. The grant and year long fellowship supported the creation of two new plays, "Bleeding the Leech" and "Honor and the River".

Cherry Lane Theatre Mentors Project Fellowship. The grant and year long fellowship supported the development and production of "Slag Heap". The project was mentored by Ed Bullins.

Dramatists Guild of America Fellowship. The grant and year long residency supported the development of three full length plays, as well as my short play "Antarctica".

New York Theatre Workshop residency at Dartmouth College. The residency supported the development and presentation of "The Lake's End".

Twice Finalist for Heideman Award, Actors Theatre of Louisville/Humana Festival, for "Antarctica" (2009) and "Davy & Stu" (2001).

Winner: Best Playwright and Best Production for "Pleaching the Coffin Sisters" in the 2007 New Works/New Haven Festival, presented at the Long Wharf Theatre, Stage II, CT.

Winner: Arch & Bruce Brown Foundation 3rd Prize Award for "The Lake's End."

Winner: John Golden Prize in Playwriting.

Winner: Rita & Burton Goldberg Award for Best Play for "Slag Heap"; mentor: Tony Kushner.
