Personal Statement

Personal Statement

I choose to teach management because I believe that business literacy has become fundamentally necessary for men and women to participate in society in a meaningful way.

We know that contemporary organizations act on people's lives in dynamic and complex ways. Organizations can have tremendously adverse effects on people's well-being; organizations also have a tremendous capacity to support people's development and growth. I believe the difference between these two extremes lies, to a great extent, in education and awareness of the considerable personal choice available to people in professional settings.

Providing people with the awareness they need to make effective choices in the workplace drives my teaching. In every course that I teach, I provide students with tools and strategies to understand the complexities of organizational life, and to more effectively choose the ways they will respond to those demands.
