During planning, I contributed to the school’s focus on the health and wellness of students, families and staff through the use of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP) Model. Unlike schools and districts across the country that must reorganize or retrofit the CSHP for their existing schools, my participation in the planning team allowed DREAM Charter School to use the model as a foundational principle in the planning, organizing and eventual operating of the school. The DREAM Charter School was authorized by New York State Board of Regents January, 2008.
