{"id":919,"date":"2022-03-09T10:15:57","date_gmt":"2022-03-09T15:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/international-services\/?page_id=919"},"modified":"2024-11-14T14:30:48","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T19:30:48","slug":"j-1-insurance-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/international-services\/inviting-scholars\/j-1-insurance-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"J-1 Insurance Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Minimum Health Insurance Benefits<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An insurance policy secured to meet the benefits requirements must be underwritten by an insurance corporation with an A.M. Best rating of &#8220;A-&#8221; or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of &#8220;A-I&#8221; or above, a Standard and Poor&#8217;s Claims Paying Ability rating of &#8220;A-&#8221; or above, or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above. Alternatively, the sponsor may ascertain that the participant&#8217;s policy is backed by the full faith and credit of the government of the exchange visitor&#8217;s home country.<\/p>\n<h2>Student Program Participants<\/h2>\n<p>Adelphi University provides a comprehensive student health insurance plan that complies with the federal mandates under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and New York State Mandates. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/health\/insurance-information-and-requirements\/\">The University requires all international students to be insured<\/a> by this plan to ensure its students are adequately protected for their time here in the Garden City, NY campus community. The university insurance covers from August 10 &#8211; August 9 of the academic year.\u00a0 Students are automatically billed for the insurance coverage and provided an opportunity to waive out with compatible coverage through the office of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/health\/\">Health Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Research and Short-Term Scholar Program Participants<\/h2>\n<p>Individual research scholars are independently required to purchase private insurance which meets J-1 requirements and provide International Services with a copy of the policy plan prior to the program start
