Changes affect admission periods, program completion, academic changes, and Extension of Stay (EOS) requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Students and exchange visitors should understand the new requirements and how they may affect immigration status, academic changes and benefits.<\/p>\n<h2>What To Do Now<\/h2>\n<p>F-1 and J-1 students should review the following:<\/p>\n<h3>Before September 1, 2026<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Review Your Form I-20: <\/strong>Confirm your major, program end date, and graduation timeline. Submit a Program Extension Request by September 1 if additional time is needed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Attend an Information Session: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/events\/?event_tag=immigration\">Register for an information session<\/a> to learn how the new regulations may affect you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>After September 15, 2026<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Review Your I-94: <\/strong>Check your I-94 expiration date, which determines your authorized period of stay.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Understand the Extension of Stay (EOS) Process: <\/strong>Students who need additional time to complete their program or participate in certain benefits, such as OPT, may need USCIS approval through the new EOS process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a final rule changing requirements for F-1 and J-1 students and exchange visitors.
