The STEM OPT Extension<\/a> provides eligible F-1 students with an additional two years of work authorization following post-completion OPT, if they earned a qualifying DHS STEM-designated degree<\/a> and are employed by an E-Verify<\/a> employer.<\/p>\n

The STEM OPT Extension begins the day after the initial Post-Completion OPT EAD expires.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Application Process for STEM OPT<\/h2>\n

  1. Attend a Workshop<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Learn about the STEM OPT process and deadlines<\/li>\n
  2. Verify Your Eligibility<\/strong> \u2014 Confirm eligibility and complete Form I-983 with your employer<\/li>\n
  3. Request Your DSO-Endorsed I-20<\/strong> \u2014 Submit your request through the International Services Portal<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Receive Your STEM OPT I-20<\/strong> \u2014 Review your updated I-20 and SEVIS recommendation<\/li>\n
  5. File Form I-765 with USCIS<\/strong> \u2014 Submit your application within the applicable filing period<\/li>\n
  6. After You Apply<\/strong> \u2014 Track your case and follow STEM OPT reporting requirements<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
