Fundamentally, lean is about leveraging employee knowledge and experience to identify and eliminate waste from our processes so we can spend more time, effort, and resources on the things that matter to our students, employees and other stakeholders, and less on the things that don\u2019t.<\/p>\n
To become a Lean organization, the philosophy must be embraced by organizational leaders throughout the university. The first steps in the journey to become a lean organization is employee education. As this progresses across the university, the Lean philosophy will begin to change the culture.<\/p>\n
The Lean Sigma 1.0<\/strong> program at Adelphi University is broken down into three components: Lean Awareness I (one three-hour workshop), Lean Awareness II (one two-hour workshop), and Lean Education for University Leadership (one three-hour workshop).<\/p>\n Lean Awareness I, designed for all employees of the university, covers the philosophy of Lean as well as some basic tools that attendees can use. Topics include:<\/p>\n The developer and facilitator of Adelphi University Lean Sigma Academy is Dr. Alan Cooper, Clinical Associate Professor, Management. <\/span>Alan has over 25 years of experience in the area of strategic organizational transformation, with a specific focus on organization development (OD), customer experience and change management.<\/p>\n The goal of this Lean workshop is to demonstrate how you could reduce waste and add value to an existing process in your department.
