AU_Honors graduateThis was a banner year for Honors seniors and graduate school admissions.

This past spring, Nikolay Iliev ’09 became our first Honors alumnus to graduate from Harvard Law School. But the Honors College presence there will remain steady as Elina Kats ’11, in her second year at Harvard Law, is joined this fall by John Miller ’12. Our applicants were admitted to so many top law schools that they arrived at their final decisions with great difficulty. In the end, it looks as though Scott Lipschitz ’12 will be headed for law school at NYU; Joanne Joseph ’12 will be at Emory University and Philip DiSanto ’12 (this year’s SGA president) at Columbia University.

Vivek Singh ’09 continues his doctoral studies in engineering at MIT. He will be joined this fall by Justin Dove ’12, who also will pursue his doctorate in engineering.

Adelphi Honors alumni have established quite a presence at Columbia University in physics and engineering. This coming year, James Olsen will study electrical engineering and Eric de la Haba will study operational engineering in the Fu School of Engineering. They will join Zhewei Jiang and Anthony Kolodzinski who are completing the joint program there. Zhewei is doing research on harvesting bio-cellular energy to power microelectronic chips. Anthony, in the mechanical engineering program, is currently working in the optical nanostructures lab, building a laser. Brian Capozzi ’10 will be entering his third year at Columbia as a doctoral student in applied physics. He is focusing his research on transport properties through single molecules with a view to the further miniaturization of electronic devices.

Other recent alumni headed for graduate study include Anthony Fazio ’12 who will be doing work in computer science at Cornell University and Alyssa Grieco ’12 who has been admitted to a highly selective program in architectural preservation at Columbia. Amanda DelGiacco ’12, admitted to every competitive program in communication sciences and disorders, has decided to pursue her graduate work at New York Medical College. Several of these seniors as well as some others can be seen in video profiles on the Honors College website at academics.adelphi.edu/honors-college.
