For more information and campus examples, see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacu.org\/leap\/hips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAC&amp;U\u2019s web pages on HIPs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>First-Year Seminars and Experiences<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sc.edu\/fye\/center\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition<\/a> serves as a trusted expert, internationally recognized leader, and clearinghouse for scholarship, policy, and best practice for all postsecondary student transitions.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/academics\/general-education\/first-year-seminars\/\">First-Year Seminar and First-Year Orientation Experience<\/a> at Adelphi University offer students the opportunity to participate in communities of inquiry around the problems and ideas that Adelphi faculty are engaged within their own research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Common Intellectual Experiences<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Adelphi University\u2019s Community Reads Program engages students in a common reading and essay-writing contest.<\/li>\n<li>The University of Southern California, Santa Barbara offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.ucsb.edu\/ucsbreads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common reading program<\/a> in collaboration with community partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Learning Communities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/wacenter.evergreen.edu\/about-the-washington-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The National Resource Center for Learning Communities<\/a> at the The Washington Center at the Evergreen State College helps \u201ccampus teams design and implement sustainable, high-quality learning community programs that engage and support all learners.\u201d The Center\u2019s web pages contain helpful resources for practitioners and a peer-reviewed journal called <em><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtoncenter.evergreen.edu\/lcrpjournal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learning Communities Research and Practice<\/a><\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Writing-Intensive Courses<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cwsp.ncsu.edu\/questions-answers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">An index of Writing in the Disciplines and Writing Across the Curriculum programs<\/a> from across the United States can be found on North Carolina State\u2019s Writing and Speaking Web pages.<\/li>\n<li>A handout used at Salt Lake Community College, provides students (and teachers) with ideas of <a href=\"http:\/\/leap.aacu.org\/toolkit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/ReflectionHandoutStudent.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how high-quality reflective writing can enhance the assignments in their general education ePortfolios<\/a>.
