Buried in Treasures: The Nature and Treatment of Hoarding Disorder

Hoarding disorder is a common and potentially debilitating condition that poses a significant problem for public health. In this workshop, we will describe the prevalence and consequences of hoarding, as well as emerging psychological and biological models of hoarding behavior. We will discuss the efficacy of interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for hoarding, and will review the steps involved with providing CBT.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

• Describe the prevalence of hoarding disorder and its associated impairment.
• Discuss psychological and biological factors underlying hoarding behavior.
• Describe the efficacy of various treatments for hoarding.
• Implement cognitive-behavioral therapy strategies for hoarding.
• Use motivation-enhancing strategies to maximize CBT outcomes.

Dr. Trolin

Dr. Tolin is the Founder and Director of the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living, and an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine. He is the President of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the Past-President of the Clinical Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association, and a principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health. He received the Award for Lifetime Contribution to Psychology from the Connecticut Psychological Association. Dr. Tolin is the author of over 200 scientific journal articles, as well as several books including Buried in Treasures: Help for Compulsive Acquiring, Saving and Hoarding and CBT for Hoarding Disorder: A Group Therapy Program. Dr. Tolin has been featured on the reality TV series Hoarders, The OCD Project, and My Shopping Addiction, and has been a recurrent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Dr. Oz Show.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued
