The Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program is designed to prepare students to work as professionals in multiple healthcare settings.

Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various clinical tasks, including assisting with the administration of medications, helping with minor procedures, performing EKGs, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and many other related tasks. Job opportunities are available in physicians’ offices, clinics, chiropractors’ offices, hospitals and outpatient facilities.

The purpose of the Clinical Medical Assistant program is to prepare learners to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of a medical office.

Optional CCMA Volunteer Externship Opportunity

Learners who complete this CCMA program can gain valuable hands-on experience in an optional volunteer externship opportunity with a local company/agency/organization whose work aligns with this area of study. As learners progress through their e-learning program, an externship coordinator will reach out to coordinate placement.

Note: Additional documentation, including health records, immunizations, drug screening, criminal background checks, etc., may be required by the externship facility.

What Can You Do With a Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate?

Medical assistants are an integral part of any medical facility or hospital. They perform both administrative and clinical tasks, supporting physicians, and complete other important tasks, including measuring patient vital signs, recording patient information, helping doctors with examinations, scheduling appointments, preparing lab samples, removing sutures and conducting lab work.

Adelphi’s certificate program covers information on the medical assistant profession, interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances. The program prepares learners to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the healthcare industry with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration that can lead to a variety of career paths.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 18 percent job growth for medical assistants between 2020 and 2030, which is much faster than normal. This makes medical assistants one of the fastest-growing careers in the United States. For comparison, the average job in the United States only has 7 percent growth over a 10-year projection.
