When Warren Eickelberg was hired as a biology professor in 1951, no one could have guessed that it would mark the start of an Adelphi family legacy spanning more than 70 years and three generations. Over his 45-year career, Professor Eickelberg not only inspired generations of students but also served as vice president for development and chairman of the council that guided early iterations of Adelphi\u2019s pre-professional and joint degree programs<\/a>. He played a pivotal role in creating Adelphi\u2019s joint programs in medicine and dentistry and securing funding for Swirbul Library. Since his passing in 1999, the Warren Eickelberg Prize for the Best Work in the Natural Sciences<\/a> has been awarded by our Honors College<\/a>. All four of Warren\u2019s children\u2014Bill \u201975, Peggy \u201977, Bob \u201981, and Janet \u201984, MA \u201904\u2014earned Adelphi degrees, many as student-athletes<\/a> and leaders. Their professional paths in education, dentistry, and business carried forward his spirit of service and achievement. Bill played soccer and swam for Adelphi, Peggy and Janet were record-setting swimmers, and Bob, also a swimmer, went on to earn his DDS at Stony Brook before building a lifelong career in dentistry. The family\u2019s Adelphi ties deepened further when Bob married alumna Julie Anderson \u201980, MA \u201982, whose mother also worked at Adelphi.<\/p>\n

The next generation followed proudly in their footsteps. Bill\u2019s children, Tom \u201911<\/a> and Betsy \u201914, MS \u201916<\/a>, were standout student-athletes\u2014both holding multiple school records across swimming, cross country, and track. Betsy also held campus jobs in the President\u2019s Office and Athletics. Bob\u2019s daughter, Grace \u201914, earned her master\u2019s in organizational psychology.<\/p>\n

The Eickelberg family\u2019s Panther pride is woven into the fabric of Adelphi\u2019s history and future.
