SOC 100: Introduction To Sociology

This course focuses upon the basic principles, concepts, terminology, themes, and issues that are the building blocks of sociological analysis.

Learning Goals
At completion of the course, students will be able to:1. Discuss foundational concepts of Sociology including, but not limited to, the sociological imagination, social institutions, social groups, social stratification, and social forces using disciplinary terminology;2. Apply these concepts in the analysis of society and everyday life;3. Utilize these concepts as tools to understand content areas such as the family, crime, social inequality, gender, race, ethnicity, education, etc. within the context of sociological inquiry; and 4. Demonstrate an appreciation of the diversity of lifestyles and cultures represented globally; and;5 Articulate an understanding of the sociological perspective as defined through the intersections of individual biography and historical, cultural, and social forces.6. Discuss the relationship between individuals, groups and society in an analysis of contemporary social problems.
