Students will develop skills in American Sign Language (ASL) by signing the lyrics of songs that comprise ASL literature. Analyses of the meaning of the lyrics will facilitate an understanding of the culture, values and heritage the Deaf community. (Distribution Reqs:Arts) 1.To explore the grammatical rules of ASL. 2. Learn to process the meanings and concepts of words, to be able to perform a song in ASL. 3. Develop a keen understanding of the visual, spatial, and gestural aspects of ASL. 4. Improve your ability to sign conceptually versus literally. 5. Develop a cultural and global awareness of difference and diversity and of the people who use Sign Language. 6.
