Please note that you do not need to buy the hard copy textbook. Your licence from MyMathLab includes the textbook as an e-book. If you do choose to buy the textbook from the bookstore, please be sure that you buy the package that includes both the textbook and the MyMathLab licence.

Prerequisites

The prerequisite for Calculus III is Math 142 (Calculus & Analytic Geometry II) with a grade of C- or better, or its equivalent from another college.

Course Objectives

To learn how to represent plane curves as parametric equations and by means of polar coordinates.
To understand the geometry of 3-space and the use of vectors.
To master the differential and integral calculus of vector functions of one variable.
To acquire familiarity with scalar functions of two and three variables.
To understand limits and continuity of functions of two and three variables.
To be able to find the partial derivatives of all orders of functions of two and three variables.
To master the Chain Rule.
To solve maximum and minimum problems for functions of two and three variables.
To learn the techniques of iterated integration for functions of two and three variables.
To solve integration problems in polar, cylindrical and spherical coordinates.
To learn how to apply the methods of differential and integral calculus to physical problems.
To acquire familairity with vector fields of two and three variables.
To solve problems involving line integral and surface integral.
To learn how to apply the theorems of Green and Stokes to vector functions.

Evaluation

The final grade will be determined on the homework, three exams, and a final exam. These are weighted as follows:

30% - Homework
45% - 3 exams at 15% each: February 20, March 26, April 25.
25% - Final exam: Wednesday, May 14, 10:30-12:30.
