Focus and Scope

The Center’s research and communication projects offer different venues for concentrated exploration of community issues. The knowledge generated by and shared in these projects is intended to assist communities with problems solving and to inform policy and planning in the region.

Vital Signs
This campus-community research-action project is main research arm of the Center’s thought leadership initiative. Vital Signs uses quantitative and qualitative research to assess quality of life on Long Island. Now in its fifth year, Vital Signs has released two social indicator reports, as well as findings from the first comprehensive survey of access to health care for adults on Long Island, with a subsequent special topic report: Long Island’s Immigrants: Health Status and Health Care Access.

Exploring Critical Issues
The University’s cable television show brings together expert panels to explore the many sides of regional issues and communicate this knowledge to community residents. From 2006-2008, Exploring Critical Issues featured three panels on the issue of immigration on Long Island. The program is hosted by Dr. Robert Scott, President of Adelphi University.
