April 18, 2007
Students, faculty, and campus administrators, including President Robert A. Scott, joined Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice on April 18, 2007, in the Earle/Waldo Hall quad for a "Take Back the Light" candlelight vigil to promote awareness of violence against women. The event was part of the Second Annual Clothesline Project, a national organization dedicated to creating awareness through visual presentation and a testimony through expression of emotion, during which students decorated T-shirts emblazoned with slogans such as "No one asks to be raped, no matter how they dress, act, live, or love," and "Real Men don't rape," that were hung from a clothesline outside of Earle Hall. The event was sponsored by the Undergraduate and Graduate Social Work Councils.
