Assets | Usage Guidelines

The logo should always appear on all media that represents Adelphi University to the outside community. Examples include advertisements, press kits, flyers, invitations, brochures, magazines, etc. Font type in the logo is Times New Roman and Helvetica Neue Condensed.

Full guidelines can be found in the Visual Standards and Editorial Style Manual (PDF 1.8 MB). Questions regarding the proper application of the logo should be directed to Promotion and Outreach. Exceptions to the guidelines outlined in this manual will be made on a case-by-case basis by Promotion and Outreach.

The logo can also appear with the campus location and/or the Web site listed underneath it. The campus site and Web address should extend to the full width of the logo, as the acceptable provided examples demonstrate.
When appropriate, an individual college or school name may appear above the logo only.

Please Note: Individual events and programs will be given greater flexibility in their ability to create and utilize their own icons. For instance, icons for Annual Fund Giving, Center for Social Innovation, and Vital Signs are acceptable. Such icons do not replace the University logo. The Adelphi logo must appear as well as the respective logo in publications, promotions, and other items associated with the event or program.

Incorrect Applications of the Logo

The University logo serves as a symbol of the University as a whole, and should not be altered to promote an individual school, department, program, or event.

The logo should never be distorted, separated, or customized. The logo should not appear with a University slogan or tagline. Use of the Centennial logo is also not permitted. The logo, as well as any other image identifying this institution, should always appear as a high-resolution image, and should never appear pixelated or in any other way distorted. The logo should never appear with additional elements or decorative figures (except for the official athletic logo). The athletics logo should be used only for athletics-sanctioned programs and publications.

---
University Seal

The University seal should only be used for formal University occasions, i.e., Commencement, President’s Gala, Matriculation, and never in place of the University logo. The seal should not appear on letterhead, promotional items, or publications without the approval of Promotion and Outreach or the President’s Office. The University seal does not replace the logo.

---
University Mark

The mark of the University (the interconnected “AU”) can be used on less formal materials such as posters, flyers, leaflets, and on other promotional materials. It works particularly well for on-campus audiences. The mark can be reproduced in black and white, in knock-out or reversed type, or as a watermark. The mark does not replace the University logo. The Adelphi logo must appear as well as the mark on the respective item(s).

Letterhead and Envelopes

University stationery is ordered through the Service Bureau, which maintains the authorized templates for stationery designs. All University letterhead and envelopes should follow the format described below. University letterhead is black and white, printed on white 20 lb. bond stock. Letterhead does not feature the names of individual faculty and administrators; it features only the name of the unit it represents. The department name and contact information appears in the upper right-hand corner. Departments are not permitted to create or customize their own letterhead. Use of the Centennial logo is not permitted. Use of the vertical (stacked) version of the logo is not permitted. Some departments require two-color stationery for special purposes. The design of two-color stationery should be coordinated through Promotion and Outreach. Please see page 13 of this manual regarding correct return address information for Adelphi University.

---
Business Cards

Business cards should also be ordered through the Service Bureau, and are printed according to the basic templates that appear below. Business cards should include a name, title, area or division, business telephone number, fax number, and email address. Office addresses may also be included. Web sites should not be listed on business cards. Text may appear flushed left or centered. Standard business cards appear in black ink; however, a two-color option also exists for senior staff and Board of Trustees members. The two-color business card should use black and red ink (PMS 1805) as it appears below. University Advancement also requires two-color business cards  for special purposes associated with the Capital Campaign.

Merchandise and Promotional Material

Merchandise is any product—shirts, shorts, cups, pens, plaques, notebooks, backpacks, keychains, etc.—intended for sale or not. An official and approved University identifier is required on all such merchandise. Any person, group, or department designing, ordering, or producing such products must adhere to the guidelines on the proper use of Adelphi’s logo, mark, and name treatment as outlined in this manual. Camera-ready artwork is available from Promotion and Outreach.

Font: The Web site address (www.adelphi.edu) should always appear in Helvetica on promotional pieces.

Advertisement Format

Standard print advertisement templates have been developed as part of the University’s current advertising campaign. Generic ads, featuring Adelphi University undergraduate or adult students, are at the core of the campaign. The ads consist of three components:

  1. a solid bar at the top, with “Adelphi University” on top of a horizontal rule, accompanied by a positive, direct headline;
  2. an image of undergraduate or adult students at the University; and
  3. a solid bar at the bottom, with the University logo on the left and the University Web site or call-to-action statement, if any, on the right side of the ad. All University-sponsored advertisements and publications are designed around the blueprint below. Note examples of generic color ads below.

The ads may also appear in black and white. This basic format serves as a template when producing all University-sponsored advertisements. The generic format can easily be adjusted to accommodate various lengths of copy, and a range of sizes. Please note examples of acceptable variations on the following page, including a copy-only advertisement.

Journal Advertisements
Adelphi University advertisements placed in other institutions’ special event journals should follow formats similar to the examples that appear to the right.

Academic Advertising
All requests from academic departments for advertising, including journal advertising, should be directed to the Provost’s Office. Advertising requests from other areas should be directed to Promotion and Outreach.

Publications Format
Publications that represent Adelphi University must also follow the guidelines outlined in this manual. Departments that design and produce their own publications must obtain design approval from Promotion and Outreach before release to the respective printer or publisher. To accommodate the diverse range of publications, colors are not restricted to the standard palette of secondary colors.
