Ann Marie Thigpen
Ann Marie Thigpen currently serves as the first Director of the Long Island Center for Nonprofit Leadership at Adelphi University.

Previously, Ann Marie Thigpen was Program Director for LITAC Nonprofit Solutions, part of the Long Island Community Foundation. Through LITAC, she delivered customized training to boards and staff on governance, board building, strategic planning, fundraising, marketing, and communication, among a variety of capacity building services.

Formerly Director of the Nonprofit Resource Center at the Community Foundation of Broward, Ann Marie Thigpen re-vitalized its Nonprofit Resource Center and created innovative programming for South Florida with the first of its kind Strategic Technology Program for nonprofits, a board development initiative, and a satellite series in nonprofit management.

Before joining the Community Foundation of Broward staff, Ann Marie was a Business Communication Lecturer for undergraduates at Penn State University and taught communication in a Masters program for Business/Engineering.

Ann Marie has also been a freelance communication consultant, having written more than fifty case statements for both national and regional organizations. She has also been a consultant to nonprofit boards of directors and nonprofit staff. Her professional affiliations include the Alliance for Nonprofit Management and BoardSource where she was an invited presenter at the BoardSource National Leadership meeting in 2002.

Recognized as an expert in popular culture and the arts, she curated an art exhibit at the University of Florida where she wrote the accompanying book. She has also appeared on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Kurault where Bill Geist produced a feature about her project. A freelance writer, Ann Marie has written articles for a variety of publications, including Newsweek, Country Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, and The Atlanta Constitution.

Born in Miami, Florida, Ann Marie received her BA from Florida State University and has done graduate work at Florida State University (Art History), Indiana University (Education), and Penn State University (Mass Communications) with the equivalent of three MA degrees. She has also been a professional actress, appearing in film, television, on stage and in television and radio commercials.

As a lecturer and consultant, Ann Marie has consulted with more than 500 nonprofit organizations and their boards of directors.
