As Technical Specialist for the International Division of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (1979-1982), she established internal auditing procedures and created financial management standards for local grant recipients. In 1985, she founded Management Development International to assist international nonprofit organizations in adapting business management skills and processes to run their operations efficiently. During this ten year period, she worked with more than a hundred nonprofits and small business groups in Latin America, Africa, and Asia in budgeting, strategic planning, establishment of financial and operational management systems and procedures, and establishment of micro-credit and small business training programs to assist the poor. From 1995-2000, she was Chief Financial Officer of the Interchurch Center—overseeing a twelve million dollar annual budget. In 2001, Tonia Papke established a consulting firm that provides financial and operational services to nonprofit organizations. Over the last eight years, she has served as part-time or interim CFO to more than a dozen nonprofits and has been hired to create and implement strong internal controls, install nonprofit fund accounting systems, create financial reporting systems, and develop investment policy statements. Tonia Papke received an MBA from Columbia University Business School and an MS in Urban Planning from the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Historic Preservation. She has a BA from Macalester College. Tonia Papke is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERŪ, providing expertise in investment management and retirement plans. For her clients, she develops investment policy statements, hires investment managers, and creates long term plans for financial stability. She lives in South Orange, New Jersey with her husband and two sons. |
