Liza Goldsmith '07
Making the Most of Her Adelphi Experience
Adelphi alumna Liza Goldsmith '07 was working in the field of speech pathology as a speech teacher at Nassau BOCES when she decided to get her master's degree. Ms. Goldsmith is grateful that Adelphi allowed her to begin taking classes in the middle of a school year, which made pursuing graduate education a smooth and easy process.
Ms. Goldsmith, a graduate of the Manhattan Center, emphasized the flexibility of class schedules was what really attracted her to Adelphi's program. "Adelphi was the only grad school in the area with a weekend program," she said. She was able to work during the week and attend school on the weekends, completing the two-year program in January 2007.
The "excellent group of professors" made her experience an enjoyable one. She felt that her knowledge of speech pathology was deepened, which has aided her in her work. Ms. Goldsmith also built strong relationships with her classmates, as many of her classes were with the same students.
During her time at Adelphi, Ms. Goldsmith was also an active member of the student council. She represented students and addressed problems, activities that helped make the Manhattan Center feel more like a community, rather than just a school. As a second year student, she served as a mentor to first year students in the mentoring program. Ms. Goldsmith said she was able to bond with other students while earning her degree, which helped provide her with a well-rounded experience.
