Francesco Fratto
The Language of Learning

"Because I aspire to be a principal one day, having a master's degree in Leadership and Technology could make this possible for me," says Francesco Fratto, a student in the educational leadership and technology program at Adelphi's Manhattan Center.

Mr. Fratto believes this is a worthwhile program. After comparing notes with friends who attend other universities, he said, "It’s like night and day," adding that the Adelphi program provides a "hands-on" learning experience that inculcates the student with the methodology needed to accomplish their goals.  Additionally, Adelphi faculty members compel each student to closely consider the definition of a true leader.  "They continually push the students to reflect on the enormity of the responsibility," he said.  "To be a leader is not simply to lead by your presence, you must be a moral leader as well." Mr. Fratto feels that his Adelphi courses and lectures helped him to accomplish this goal. The program provides an overall positive learning experience, he says.

His advisor and faculty members provide outstanding direction; their advice and lectures are comprehensive and touch upon key issues significant to leadership within an educational environment.  Previous lectures have included such topics as working within school policy, bringing about change as a leader, forming alliances with staff and administrators, and communicating with local politicians.

Although Mr. Fratto resides and attends classes in New York City, he is currently employed as a foreign language teacher in Westchester County.  After 13 years of teaching and mastering his craft, Mr. Fratto hopes to inspire others in his field by presenting regional and local workshops in speech and speech assessment.  He created a Web site in regards to these conferences, as he strives to be a future consultant for foreign language departments within various school districts.  "I have my own vision of what I would like to see happen in a foreign language department," he said.

After receiving a master’s degree in education from Boston College, Mr. Fratto applied to the education leadership and technology program at Adelphi because he believed that he "could be a positive influence as a leader, as well as a driving force of success for all students, not just students within the foreign language class."

Francesco strongly believes in the Adelphi Educational Leadership and Technology Program as a means to achieve his lifetime goals in education.
