The Intensive Teacher Institute (ITI-BE/BSE), located at Eastern Suffolk BOCES, was created to address the shortage of certified bilingual and English as a Second Language educators and other professionals in New York State in both general education and special education.
The Ruth S. Ammon School of Education at Adelphi University has an on-going agreement with the Intensive Teacher Institute program which offers NYSED approved participants with funding opportunities of up to $300.00 per credit for 15 credits. General or special education teachers working with bilingual or ESL students without the appropriate credentials in these areas may apply to ITI-BE/BSE after they are nominated by their district superintendent, building principal, or preschool director.
Pupil Personnel Service providers (guidance counselor, social workers and psychologists) are also included in this agreement.
Adelphi’s Ammon School of Education offers the following State approved Intensive Teacher Institute in Bilingual and ESL (ITI-BE/BSE) Advanced Certificates (15 credits) at the Initial and Professional /Permanent certification levels at Garden City and the Manhattan Center:
- Bilingual Extension to General Education Classroom Teachers; Bilingual Extension to Special Education Classroom Teachers; Bilingual Extension to TSHH-TSSLD.
- TESOL General Education and TESOL Special Education Classroom Teachers
- Bilingual Pupil Personnel; (guidance counselors, social workers and psychologists)
