Advantages of the Adelphi I.D.E.A. Program include:

Accelerated degree completion: Just four years to complete a bachelor’s and master’s degree program (and even less with transfer and prior learning credits), saving two years of valuable time to your degree completion. Get into a teaching career faster than traditional programs offer.

Weekend classes: Courses meet on Saturdays and Sundays, allowing you to continue employment while you complete your degree.

Manhattan location: I.D.E.A. program courses are offered at the Adelphi Manhattan Center, which is easily accessible from NYC subways and all five boroughs.

Blended course content: All courses will include online content, allowing students to complete some of their coursework outside of class on a flexible schedule.

Dual certification: This program leads to master’s degrees in education with dual certification—giving you an advantage in the job market. Students will leave dual certified in Secondary Education and Special Education or in Childhood Education and Special Education.

Generous transfer credit policies and credit for prior learning: This program features multiple points of entry, allowing for transfer students with credit from another accredited college or university to enter the program without retaking courses. Students are also eligible to receive college credit for some of their undergraduate coursework through the Prior Learning program

Quality degree programs: Degrees earned through Adelphi’s University College and Ruth S. Ammon School of Education carry with them full Middles States and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) accreditation. These are the highest levels of accreditation for universities and schools of education in the United States.

A university with a proud tradition and a history of success: Since 1896, Adelphi University has served the New York metro area as an academic leader in higher education. University College has over 34 years of experience with adults returning to college to earn their bachelor’s degrees. The Ruth S. Ammon School of Education is New York State’s fourth largest producer of teachers in the state. These two colleges have combined to provide students with this unique degree program.

The personal touch: Applicants to the I.D.E.A. program are assigned an academic adviser at their first contact with Adelphi who stays with them throughout their degree programs. This means you’ll always be able to contact a person who knows you and your educational and career goals as you complete the program. Courses are taught in smaller class sizes using a cohort format for instruction. Students will study with the same group of students throughout the program, forming close bonds with their classmates and faculty.

Lower costs: Students in the I.D.E.A. program pay lower tuition fees than students in traditional Adelphi degree programs, saving students thousands of dollars over the course of their degrees. Additionally, the I.D.E.A. program is lower in cost than many of the other private university options available in Manhattan. Finally, students will complete their master’s degree program two years faster than traditional education degree programs—meaning students can begin earning higher salaries at an earlier date.

Seamless and efficient admissions processes: The I.D.E.A. program offers a ‘one-stop’ admissions process that allows qualified students to attend a program open house and walk out admitted to the program in the same day. I.D.E.A. program applicants do not have to complete an SAT exam for undergraduate enrollment, and are seamlessly transitioned from the bachelor’s to master’s degree programs (provided they’ve met the prescribed educational requirements) with minimal paperwork and processes.
