Intensive Teacher Institute
The Intensive Teacher Institute (ITI-BE/BSE), located at Eastern Suffolk BOCES, was created to address the shortage of certified bilingual and English as a second language educators and other professionals in New York State in both general education and special education.
The Ruth S. Ammon School of Education at Adelphi University has an ongoing agreement with the Intensive Teacher Institute, which offers New York State Education Department approved participants with funding opportunities of up to $300 per credit for 15 credits. General or special education teachers working with bilingual or ESL students without the appropriate credentials in these areas may apply to ITI-BE/BSE after they are nominated by their district superintendent, building principal or preschool director.
Pupil Personnel Service providers (guidance counselor, social workers and psychologists) are also included in this agreement.
Adelphi’s Ammon School of Education offers the following state-approved Intensive Teacher Institute in Bilingual and ESL (ITI-BE/BSE) Advanced Certificates (15 credits) at the Initial and Professional/Permanent certification levels at Garden City and the Manhattan Center:
