Participants will attend two workshops, one in the morning and one in the
afternoon. These sessions will address the key topics that undergird the conference themeengaging community in mission, exploring new technology, examining new models of leadership, responding to financial challenges, and finding new ways to engage your board.
A: Mission without Walls

Mission doesn't begin when you turn on the lights in the morning or end when you lock the door at night. To accomplish their mission, nonprofit organizations must promote an organizational culture that isn't solely defined by delivering services, bringing in customers, or providing programs. This workshop will examine ways to achieve strong community engagement, investment, and alliances to advance organizational mission through community leadership.

B: A Downturn Guide to Online Fundraising and Marketing
Morning and Afternoon
Direct mail and gala dinners may have been king for nonprofit fundraising activities in the past, but these pricey outlets are no longer enough. To combat a downturn economy and low ROI status quo programs, it’s time for nonprofits to expand their efforts and enter the 21st century. Technology and the Internet are no longer reserved for the for-profit giants: Now nonprofits can efficiently and effectively bolster their fundraising and outreach efforts using the Web. Join this workshop for a discussion of what online resources are available and how nonprofits can utilize technology to increase visibility and maximize fundraising capacity.

C: New Models of Leadership

As a new generation of leaders enters the nonprofit sector, organizations must be open to a new way of "doing business," both at the executive and board level. Based on her research for the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Ms. Kunreuther will identify ways to develop nonprofit leadership and rethink assumptions about leadership roles and organizational structure for a new nonprofit world.

Nonprofit leaders are faced with unprecedented challenges in responding to the current financial recession. This workshop will address strategic and tactical responses to the economic challenges. The role of nonprofit leaders in maintaining mission and sustaining the organization will be discussed.

D2: The Elephant in the Boardroom
Afternoon only
For years, organizations have tried to build fundraising boards, attract the right people, provide them with the right training...but what if the structure of boards is the problem? Come learn some of the new organizational forms nonprofits are experimenting with and how your organization can build a functional board. It’s not as hard as it looks, but it does require fun and creativity.
