About the Speaker
Varun Shetty is an AmeriCorps National Service member who currently works as the coordinator of a pediatric literacy program at the Ryan/Chelsea-Clinton Community Health Center in Manhattan. There, he oversees a program which seeks to improve literacy rates in underserved communities by providing children with new books and advising parents on the importance of reading and writing in early childhood development. He is a graduate of Union College, where he has received a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Biology, and from Union Graduate College, where he is completing an MBA in Healthcare Management. For his senior thesis, Varun researched the evolution of government policies of India and China as it related to the HIV/AIDS epidemic over the last two decades. During his presentation, Varun will present the findings of his research, and discuss the academic and career opportunities that exist in the field of public and community health care.
