About the Speaker
Peter Balik is a political adviser with the Delegation of the European Commission to the United Nations. He is responsible for analyzing global security issues discussed in the Security Council, representing the European Commission at UN meetings, drafting reports, and circulating them to the European Commission’s Headquarters in Brussels and its Delegations throughout the world. Peter completed his Master studies in Political Science at the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, and in International Relations at the University of Economics in Bratislava, Slovakia. His research activities focused on the study of “small states” and their current role in international organizations. In particular, he tested his hypotheses in relation to the role of non-permanent members in the Security Council and presented the case of Slovakia’s non-permanent membership in 2006 2007. Peter will share his expertise on the role of small states in international organizations, drawing from his theoretical background and current practical experience at the United Nations.
